Overview

Stitch3D supports a wide range of spatial and non-spatial file formats across point clouds, raster imagery, vector data, media, ground control points, and project documents. All files are validated on upload to ensure format correctness and processing readiness. For georeferenced projects, files are automatically reprojected into your project's CRS on upload.

☁️ Point clouds

Point clouds are the primary data type on Stitch3D. The following formats are supported for upload and 3D visualization in the viewer.

Format

Extension

Notes

LAS

.las

Industry-standard uncompressed point cloud format

LAZ

.laz

Compressed, lossless LAS recommended for faster uploads and lower storage use

E57

.e57

Common export format from terrestrial laser scanners (Leica, FARO, Trimble)

PLY

.ply

Polygon file format, commonly used in photogrammetry and mesh workflows

πŸ’‘ Tip: If you have .las files, try converting them to .laz before uploading. LAZ is lossless (no data is lost) and files are typically 80–90% smaller, resulting in significantly faster upload times and lower storage usage.

ℹ️ Note: Stitch3D does not accept zipped point cloud files. Upload bare .las, .laz, .e57, or

.ply files directly.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Raster

Raster files are displayed as map layers in the viewer, overlaid on or alongside your point cloud data.

Format

Extension

Notes

GeoTIFF (RGB Image)

.tif / .tiff

Supported for orthomosaics, DEMs, hillshades, and elevation models

GeoTIFF (Single-band DEM)

.tif / .tiff

One-band GeoTIFF file with embedded elevation values. Available for Elevation and Digital Terrain Model

ℹ️ Note: For GeoTIFF files in a georeferenced project, ensure your file is in a supported EPSG-registered CRS. Stitch3D will validate and reproject it into your project CRS on upload.

πŸ“ Vector

Vector files are visualized as layers in the viewer and can be used for boundaries, planimetrics, contours, and spatial overlays.

Format

Extension

Notes

Shapefile

.shp (+ .dbf, .shx)

Upload all required component files together. Include .zip with .prj for CRS information.

KML

.kml

Commonly used for boundaries, site extents, and flight paths. Expected in WGS84 (EPSG:4326).

KMZ

.kmz

Compressed KML, treated the same as KML on upload.

DXF

.dxf

Supported for georeferenced CAD exports. Include .zip with .prj file for correct spatial positioning.

GeoJSON

.geojson

Lightweight web-friendly vector format.

GeoPackage

.gpkg

Open, standards-based, and platform-independent format

⚠️ DXF files without a .prj file may not display in the correct spatial position in the viewer. Always include a .prj alongside your .dxf when uploading CAD-derived data.

ℹ️ Not yet supported: .dwg and .dgn files are not currently supported. Convert to Shapefile or DXF before uploading.

πŸ“· Media

Media files can be uploaded to a project as reference assets such as inspection imagery, site photographs, and 360 panoramas.

Format

Extension

Notes

JPEG

.jpg / .jpeg

Geotagged images with EXIF lat/long data will display as pins on the map

PNG

.png

Supported for reference imagery

WebP

.webp

Open-source image format

πŸ’‘ Tip: If your site photos were taken with a GPS-enabled camera or drone, the EXIF geotag data is preserved on upload and images will be pinned to their capture location automatically in the viewer.

πŸ“ Ground Control Points (GCPs)

Ground Control Points are used in georeferenced projects to improve the spatial accuracy of your point cloud data. GCPs must be uploaded as a CSV file in a specific format.

Format

Extension

Notes

CSV

.csv

Required columns: Point name, Easting (X), Northing (Y), Elevation (Z). CRS must match your project CRS.

TXT

.txt

Similar format to CSV File. Can be PNEZD or PENZD

ℹ️ Note: GCP upload is only available in Georeferenced projects. Quickstart projects do not support GCPs.

πŸ“„ Documents

Non-spatial project documentation can be uploaded and stored alongside your spatial data, keeping everything in one place.

Format

Extension

Notes

PDF

.pdf

Field reports, inspection summaries, deliverable documentation

Word

.doc / .docx

Project documents and correspondence

Excel

.xls / .xlsx

Data tables, quantity reports, asset lists

CSV

.csv

Tabular data exports and GCP files

XML

.xml

Structured data and metadata exports

PowerPoint

.ppt / .pptx

Presentations and client-facing deliverables

Text

.txt

Plain text notes and logs

ℹ️ Note: Document files are stored as project assets and are available for download. They are not visualized in the viewer.

File size and upload limits

Category

Limit

Point cloud (single file)

5GB (Starter), 25GB (Personal), 50GB (Pro), up to 1TB (Enterprise)

Raster (single file)

5GB (Starter), 25GB (Personal and Pro)
